Slow Down

What a roller coaster these past couple of weeks have been.  With report cards, observations at school, and trying to get myself back in the work groove I feel like I need things to slow down a bit.  Have you ever felt like that? I woke up this morning with a sore throat.  This is my first sign that I need to slow down a bit go to bed earlier and chill out.  I regrettably I decided to nix my workout for tonight to prepare for my observation tomorrow and to go to bed early.  But as you can see I’m now typing this at 9:50.

Halloween is just around the corner and I feel like I’m going to miss it.  Breslin made me carve pumpkins on Sunday night (see our masterpieces below), but I felt a bit rushed because I was focused on schoolwork.  I haven’t watched one Halloween adult movie (I’ve seen several of kid movies thanks to Breslin).  I always like to watch Hocus Pocus and Halloween.  I know they are not scary, but they put me in the holiday spirit.

Breslin is pumped for Halloween to get here.  She is desperately counting down the days until she can go trick or treating.  Her biggest dilemma is how to wear her car whiskers.  I know the troubles of a 5 year old.

Workouts are tanking this week. I really want to see if I can squeeze in some workouts before the week ends.  With Halloween and Jamie’s birthday tomorrow I think I might be up against some walls.

As I end this post I found this quote that sums up my day:

Work is hard. Distractions are plentiful. And time is short.
Adam Hochschild

What is your favorite Halloween tradition?

How do you fit in workouts with no time?

I’m human not Super Women…

Its Monday and I haven’t blogged in days. I’m a mother, a teacher, a girlfriend not to mention I have thrown in daily blogger and nightly workout enthusiast.   Its hard to fit all of that into one day,  I’m exhausted just thinking about it!  Its been a rough couple of days.  You know the girl that gets out of a speeding ticket because she cries?  Well that’s not me!  No matter which tactic I try I always get the ticket.  In life things never seems to work out my way.

Friday equaled tired!  The first week back is always rough.  On top of stressing about report cards all week I find out that they have moved the deadline to next Friday Nov 1.  I scrambled all week to finish when it wasn’t necessary.  Ugg! Saturday we had our family pictures taken.  Adding to the drama we were 45 minutes late because we were stuck in fair traffic.  Everything worked out though and here are my favorite shots.

Sunday was a ball of fun (I hope you since the sarcasm)!  I spent all day preparing for an observation that I was suppose to have today.  Well it never happened(I know aren’t you sad too) and now I’m on for Wednesday. Wish me luck part two!

Work out schedule this weekend:

Saturday-Cycling

Sunday Barbell

Go me 🙂

So back to the beginning things don’t come easy for me.  I have to work really hard for things that come easy to other people.  I’ve learned that I’m not going to be the best I just have to try my hardest and learn from my mistakes.  Things must happen for a reason and set backs may be lessons to prepare me for the future. No questions tonight as I leave you with this quote.  Happy Monday!

Life is a series of experiences, each one of which makes us bigger, even though sometimes it is hard to realize this. For the world was built to develop character, and we must learn that the setbacks and grieves which we endure help us in our marching onward.
Henry Ford

Come here Friday

Yes Friday is so close I can taste it!  I’ve never been so excited to see a weekend.  I’m sure you are all on the seat of your chairs wondering if I finished those lovely report cards.  The answer is yes!  Last night at 10:30 I typed my last comment and this afternoon at 4:45 I printed a copy of each just to “look over”.  Thank goodness they are going home tomorrow and they are out of my life forever (well until next quarter). Now I just have to get through my observation on Monday yuck!

Thanks to lovely report cards and the search for multiple copies of chapter books for my guided reading groups my workout schedule sucked this week.

Sunday-too lazy

Monday-yoga

Tuesday- library and Barnes and Noble book search

Wednesday-library and report card comments (Finally caught up on Awkward yikes Jenna)

Thurday- well I’ve slacked off the whole week might as well continue the tradition and rest tonight

Lets hope for a productive workout weekend!

Breslin is making bad choices at school again.  I’m not sure the reason.  She has never had problems before this school year.  I’m not sure why its starting now.  So our ride home today was in silence with her sticking to the story I’m not sure why I did what I did.  Being a “teacher mom” I find myself arguing two sides of the story.  One maybe she is acting out because she is bored at school (she just turned 5 and missed the cut off for kindergarten and we went back and forth debating on putting her in kindergarten early or keeping her another year in pre-k.  We went with keep her in pre-k).  Two she is starting to show her true colors and can be a bit mischievous.  My gut tells me she’s a smart girl and knows right from wrong.

ImageYou’ll be happy to know I haven’t had a headache since Tuesday.  I’m thinking it has something to do with sleep because I went to bed at 9:30 on Tuesday night.  It could also be the fact that I had a bucket of stress dumped on me on Monday.  Welcome back to work!

Saturday we have rescheduled our family pictures.  I still haven’t gone and looked for something to wear.  My procrastination is seeping in again.  I’m hoping to go out tomorrow night and see what I can find.  My goal not to wait until Saturday to go on an outfit search!

ImageWhat type of clothes should I wear?

How happy are you I’m done with report cards and you don’t need to listen to me talk about them anymore?

Random Thoughts

I wasn’t sure what to post about tonight so it will probably be some random thoughts!  I tend to find myself thinking about blogging topics while I’m in spin class (random I know).  I haven’t been since last week, so I haven’t been deep in thought lately.

Being back to work is hard.  Report cards are due Friday, and I continue to procrastinate on writing comments.  If you don’t know me I’m the queen at procrastinating.  Unless someone gives me a deadline I tend to wait till the very last minute.  I have 21 comments to write and only 1 student completed.  It’s Tuesday and I need to get started otherwise I’ll be cramming at the last minute.  I need to just do it!

Since my parents left on Saturday my workout schedule has been all crazy.  I’m getting use to my new hours and tend to find myself more exhausted then usual.  Is it sad that it is almost 8:00 and I just want to be sleeping?  With report cards looming over my head this week my workout schedule may be shot.  I actually made it to yoga last night, but was on a book search tonight  for school so no workout tonight.

Three things that have been rattling around in my head are work, money, and sleep.  All I want to do is work less, sleep more, and get more money!  Maybe a miracle will happen!

Breslin had her birthday pedicure over the weekend and boy was it fun (for me too I got to sit in the massage chair while she got her pedicure).  She invited 2 girls to come along with her and it was so cute to watch 5 years getting pampered.

This is the second night in a row that I have been coming home with a headache.  I need to figure out what is triggering these headaches.  They are mainly in the front of my head. Sometimes I think they are stress related, but a had a few last week and I definitely was not stressed last week.  Any ideas?

Okay so this maybe a little weird, but I love the show Awkward on MTV.  It has it’s season première tonight and I’m super excited.  Sometimes I feel like I’m trapped in an 18 year old body.  MTV has some of my favorite shows!  lol

Any crazy shows you like?

What is causing my headaches?

Sunday Funday

Happy Sunday!  The weekend always sneaks by too quickly.  Heading back to work tomorrow always leaves me in mourning for track outs past.  So in spirit of looking on the bright side of things I used the Urban Dictionary’s definition “Sunday Funday” in honor of tonight’s post.

Sunday Funday ~Urban Dictionary

The glorious holiday at the end of every week to celebrate the end of a long and tiring 6 days. On this day, its observers are to completely relax in whichever way they see fit. If it consists of throwing back some beers with friends, playing board games in a park, or indulging in any other substances with peers, it is a full day of fun and relaxation. Most events start in the early afternoon, and end in time for all participants to get to bed at a reasonable hour to prepare for the beginning to yet another long week.
Caroline: “what should we do to celebrate Sunday Funday this week?”
Simone: “lets hang out with Keith and make cornbread.”
Caroline: “Yeah! I am so excited.”
I have decided to create a list of some Sunday Funday events that happened today (okay they are not all fun but I liked them)
This Bright New Day
1) A quote I found while browsing through someone Instagram page.  I found really inspirational, as I often wish away my day.
Halloween Costumes
2) Breslin finally chose a Halloween costume.  She has decided to go as a cat!  I’m grateful that it’s one activity I can cross off my list!
Image
13 Nights of Halloween
3) I found out that the 13 Night of Halloween started on Friday night.  I love this!  I already have figured out that Hocus Pocus is airing on Saturday night.
Strawberry Dippers
4) I found “strawberry dippers” at Walmart the other day.  Not as good as the “banana dippers” but a close second!
Movie Night
5) Sunday is “Movie Night”.  Every Sunday night Jamie and I pick a movie to watch after Breslin goes to bed.  It’s always a late night, but I enjoy the alone time.
What have you done to celebrate Sunday Funday?
How do you pump yourself up to go back to work?

I’m back baby!

I’m back!  It’s been a crazy couple of days and feel like I’ve been on the go since my parents arrived and I started working again.  Its was really nice to have some family around for the week, since we really have no family here in town.

Even with my parents in town I tried to get a decent workout week in because with working full time again next week you never know what will happen.

Here were my workouts this week:

Sunday- Cycling

Monday-Barbell

Tuesday- Nothing

Wednesday-Cycling

Thursday-Hot Yoga

Friday-nothing

Saturday- TBD- (I might head into the gym later and get a quick run in)

Wednesday we headed to the zoo.  It was actually decent weather outside, and there was no one there so it was wonderful!  The NC Zoo is really spacious and has tons of foliage to provide shade so its not a bad walk.  It is a walk though about 5 miles, sometimes Breslin can complain about all the walking so I brought along the stroller.

ImageThere are two sides to the zoo the African and North American.  We saw elephants, zebras, giraffes, cougars, and all sorts of other animals.

ImageImageImageImageIt was a great trip!

Thursday was Breslin’s 5th birthday.  I cannot believe she is already 5 years old.  In honer of her birthday I had to throw in a flash back of her as a little baby.

Happy 5th birthday!

We spent the day with my parents shopping, and dinner was pizza and cake.  Today we she is going to celebrate with two friends from school by going to get pedicures.  Pictures to come!

It has been a long, but exciting week.  I’m sort of ready to get back to the grind, and fall into a normal schedule again.

What is your favorite zoo?

What is your favorite way to celebrate birthdays?

Parents Visit and a Killer Headache

Tuesday means its almost time to track back in and start a new quarter. I’m trying to enjoy my last couple of days off as thoughts of report cards and lesson plans start creeping back into my head. I’ve also been thinking how am I ever going to get back up at 6:10 again when I’ve been waking up at 8:00. Almost back to the grind.

Monday came and went quickly. I started my day with returning some items to Target and a stop at the credit union. Then it was off to the gym for a barbell class. I’ve really been enjoying my morning classes. It’s nice to just get up and go and have the rest of the day to get things done. Plus I’ve been going to some classes with a friend. Its nice to have the company and time to catch up.  I was hoping my workout would help the headache that I woke up with!  It lasted all day, and after I tutored I finally gave in and took some Advil.  I’m not sure way I’ve been having these killer headaches.  I was thinking lack of sleep or lack of water? I’m not sure. Any ideas?

Breslin’s birthday is coming up this week, so she wanted to celebrate with her friends at school. It was off to get the perfect crayon popsicle for her to share with her class.

My parents came into town on Monday night late, Breslin was up until 11:30 due to pure excitement. Of course she was up at her normal time and tends to run on fumes while visitors are here.

Today we went to DD (its sad its so close to my house because I go there way too much). Coffee and donuts my favorite. Then it was off to see the IMAX movie To The Arctic in 3D. Breslin loved the 3D,  but soon was bored of the movie and ready to go. We went to a kids museum after the movie, and got some lunch.

This evening we went for a walk on this wooded trail that runs for miles.  The sun actually peaked its head out for a bit.  Then we had some yummy Chinese food for dinner.  Tomorrow we are thinking of heading to the zoo.  I hope the weather coroporates!

What is you favorite birthday treat?

How can I drink more water?
